Optipod is a British social enterprise with a single-minded mission: to close one of the widest yet most solvable gaps in global health. Millions of people live with blurred vision simply because they cannot access a trained eye-care provider or afford the spectacles they need. We exist to change that, wherever they live.
Optipod grew from a simple observation by our founder, a dispensing optician who has spent his working life measuring faces and building spectacles by hand. He understood that a proper pair depends on dozens of small measurements and lenses made to a precise prescription. He also saw that this craft had never been made portable or affordable enough to reach the places that need it most.
Adjustable and donated glasses offered as a stopgap could not correct astigmatism, seldom fitted well, and in some cases were withdrawn on medical advice. Optipod is the answer he set out to build: a modular spectacle system and a complete Optician in a Box™ that lets a trained local fitter assess vision, determine the prescription and assemble accurate spectacles in minutes, with no laboratory and no high-street practice in sight.
